They the closest to right, did you say PMJ? Are you admitting they are wrong by saying they are close to right? I love this, The Jehovah inspired closest to right. With such a whacked out God, that's the best he could do anyway, they're not quite right but the closest my holy spirit can get someone to right. Sounds like a not quite right God is dealing with the not quite right JWs. Sounds like they all have a mental defficiency to me!!!! Coming from you PMJ, it's really not such A BIG DEAL ANYWAY.

Did the early church really go apostate?
by greendawn indo you think the early church before constantine, really went apostate and to what degree or in what way?
or is this a myth created by the jws and other protestant groups that appeared relatively late in history to give some validity to their (late) appearence?
i can't see any real or serious apostasy before constantine.

It sounds funny to hear in these days that people want to return to primitive chiristianity where all was peace and love. I'm afraid the opposite proved true. There were lots of episltes, gospels, and revelations manufactured and circulated by different parties, each trying to prove their point. Each sect was trying to prevail one over the other. Dionysius of Corinth (170 A.D.) complained that his writings were being falsified but consoled himself by saying the same things were being done with the "Scriptures of the Lord". Mosheim, the Christian historian, stated:"There were a number of commentaries filled with impositions and fables on our Saviour's life and sentiments, composed soon after his ascent into heaven, by men who, without being bad, perhaps, were superstitious, simple, and piously deceitful. To these were afterwards added other writings, faslely ascribed to the most holy apostles by fraudulent individuals." Even though there were many sects, there were three principal ones that stood out, the Paulines, the Petrines, and the Johannines. Paul was the apostle of uncircumcision and the Gentiles. Paul wished to carry Christ to the Gentiles and still allow them to be Gentiles. In those days Paul was not recognized as a lawful teacher of christianity nor was he for more than a hundred years. Peter was of circumcision and the Jews. If they became Christians they must first become Jews and do with strict adherence ceremonially as the Jews did. Johannines were anti-Pauline and you can get a strong hint of this in Revelation 2:2,9 with these words being thrust at Paul and his followers: "And thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars." "I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, are are not, but are the synagogue of Satan:" and Revelation 3:9, "them of the synagogue of Satan, which say the are Jews, and are not, but do lie." Notice Paul's words in 2 Cor.12:16 where Paul concedes that he caught some of his followers by being crafty and using guile, but he thought that if he had misrepresented as to his apostolic authority, since good had come out of it, no harm had been done. In Romans 3:7 Paul says in his defense, "For if the truth of God hath more abounded through my lie according to His glory why yet am I also judged as a sinner?" The Ebionites, one of the most powerful early sects, rejected Paul and said he was an apostate from the law. The Paulines rejected the Epistle of Hebrews and also rejected Revelation. The Cerinthians opposed John, Peter, and Paul. The Simonians opposed Peter. The Ophites rejected John and Paul. They were snake-worshipers and claimed to have derived their doctrines from James the brother of Jesus. This documentation could go on and on. In short, there was never a time in early christianity of unity, peace and all that love, you know, that good old-time religion.

Is getting married in Church a DA'able offense? Ping anyone with BOE manual
by Abaddon inhaving been fairly proud of my jw parent's behaviour (and to be honest, my handling of them) in the 13 years or so since i walked away i now find myself in a quandry.
i basically arranged my departure from the cult in such a manner that i would neither be da'd or df'd, to avoid a situation where their family loyalty might be streached by their adherence to organsiational law.
why should i play by their rules and write a letter leaving an imaginary religion?

Technically, you could be reproved or disfellowshipped for an attitude. You may think this is absurd, but there is a KM article that elders are instructed to us by the C.O. in certain cases where the sin of wrongdoing is not very clear but the person shows an attitude that condones conduct that could be offensive and detrimental to the flock. As others have clearly posted, if they want to DF you for this church wedding, your goose is cooked.

PMJ, Do you believe there are only 144,000 of the anointed class, you know, the only ones that go to heaven to rule as kings and priests with Jesus? Are you still a posting JW? If so, let's do a little simple math. Since Pentecost 33 C.E. until 2006 there has elapsed approximately 1,973 years since the selection of the heavenly class began. That equals a little less than 73 chosen ones every year since 33 C.E.. Now if Peter"s sermons led to the initial conversion of 5000 and the word spread so thoroughly through the then known world that Paul said the good news had been successfully preached, just have many converts were there by 70 C.E.? Remember, Nero blamed the christians for burning Rome. They were supposedly killed in vast numbers in the Roman arenas and this was all prior to 70 C.E.. This bothered me as a witness for a long time. From the Bible students meager start in the 1870's until 1925, there were approximately 100,000 attending the memmmorial. Then 1925, you know, the year Rutherford predicted for the end, the year that made an ass out of him as he admitted, the next year there were less than 20,000 at the memorial if my memmory of statistics serves me correctly. That little error cost them 80,000 or more partakers. I guess they were just a bunch of culls that couldn't stand all that bright light. How many were professing to be of the anointed before the year 1935, the other sheep discovery year of new light. The only reason for this new light was the number 144,000 was getting them in trouble again. Heck, with a little booze, and a big imagination, you can come up with all kinds of new light. However, if you can add and use logic, the 144,000 number probably had them in trouble even before the fall Jerusalem in 70 C.E. The point is, PMJ, if you believe the 144,000 make up the anointed, I'm afraid you been fresh out of participants for the last 1,900 years or so. Your governing body may be just regular guys. I call them the unfaithful and indiscreet slave class. How do you reply to this?

Would you want Jesus as a friend?
by scout575 inwhilst christians like to portray jesus as the supreme example of love and mercy ( as opposed to a supposedly wicked 'watchtower god' ), does the bible's presentation of jesus cast him in quite the same flattering light that christians like to believe?
for instance, at revelation 19:15 jesus is described as 'smiting the nations and ruling them with a rod of iron and treading the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of almighty god.
' does jesus sound just as bad as the 'wicked watchtower god'?

I believe the Jesus of the gospels is a fictional character. However, if he was real, I would surely have liked him and wanted him as a friend. Any person who treated children the way he did in the gospels and was able to perform all those wonderful miracles, I again say, I would've wanted as my friend. I've also seen some fairy-tale characters that I would have wanted as friends if they were real, haven't you?

If Christians are 1/3 of the world's population....
by joelbear in.
then why do we have homeless people, millions starving, millions others living in poverty.
seems like a mighty ineffective 2 billion believers.

Is one-third an accuate estimate? I though it was around one-fifth of the world's population.
